In this program we celebrate the treasury of youth, with works by some of history's greatest prodigies, and an appearance by one of today's greatest instrumental prodigies. Ji-Yong is already in the midst of a remarkable career at the ripe old age of 14, and has been astounding audiences since before he was nine. He solos in one of Mozart's masterpieces of virtuosity, the piano concerto known as "The Young Man" (Le Jeunehomme). Benjamin Britten's own compositional masterpiece follows, namely the Young (and older!) Person's Guide to the Orchestra. The concert's finale is a triumphant side-by-side performance by members of the PSO and the Central Illinois Youth Symphony, presenting Britten's youthful Soirees Musicales and another work which will remain top secret for now.
