Baroque and Jazz

Krzysztof Jablonski, piano
Panufnik: Jagiellonian Triptych
Bach: Concerto in D Minor BWV 1052
Milhaud: La Creation du Monde
Ravel: Piano Concerto in G
It’s a special treat to present the virtuosic Polish pianist Krzysztof Jablonski, who’ll play two works anchored in different but related musical worlds. Baroque music, like Jazz, has a strong connection with dance in its propulsive rhythm and high energy, and you’ll sense the threads binding the two. Baroque forms are at work in Milhaud’s jazzy ballet score Creation of the World. Ravel had great admiration for Jazz, and you will enjoy its influence in his Concerto in G. Have no fear of the Jagiellonian Triptych: 20th-Century Polish composer Panufnik’s gentle work hearkens most strongly to the sound world of the Renaissance.
