To open, two of my favorites: Milhaud's Jazzy "Creation of the World" and Bloch's intense Concerto Grosso. Hearing composers adapt styles and forms from other era shows how a healthy culture always considers its past while pondering its future. True to form, the revolutionary Beethoven, offers a humorous perspective on that "new‐fangled contraption" the metronome in his Eighth Symphony ‐ after presenting to us some creations of his own.
